I had an amazing opportunity this past weekend to photograph a lovely family, The Ruggles. The top left photo shows the family together, from left to right, Steve, Shelby, Larry (Steve’s Father) down/left to right, Ryan and Jake. Steve and Shelby’s child, Ryan was diagnosed with autism and Steve started racing his Corvette with the help of his father, Larry, and family to raise awareness and money for the worthy cause. CBS sent cameraman Matt out to Lowe’s Motor Speedway in Concord, North Carolina to get footage for The Early Show.
The show is scheduled to air on Wednesday, June 17, 2009. Tune in! Click here to see The Early Show video.
Yesterday at the track Steve told us a little about the races he enters, Open Road Racing. I looked up the web address and was able to get this description from the website in the FAQ section:
Open Road Racing is a high-speed automotive rally-style event held on closed highways from 50 to 84 miles in length, in two legs, with total distances ranging from 97 to 131 miles. Cars compete in solo runs against the clock in speed classes ranging from 95 MPH to 170 MPH, with the objective being to average your target speed EXACTLY. You can race by yourself, or share the fun with a co-driver or navigator to help keep the time and watch the course notes.
